Dear Mr. Trump,
I understand why Fox News chose to lead off the way they did last night by securing a pledge from all participants not to go third party. And, as predicted, you stood your ground holding true to those very principles which got you here in the first place.
I could practically hear the gloating gleefulness of the entrenched entitled establishment elites planning your early dismissal from their show…their race…their presidential election process. (Charles Krauthammer not withstanding.)
As I looked on in dismay, I recognized how utterly brilliant it was of them to play the American audience this way. I believe that this particular litmus test showed two vulnerabilities of those in charge.
1. They are very afraid of your popularity
2. They need to believe you won’t matter in the long run.
The first shot wasn’t a warning shot across your bow…it was purposely aimed right on target…to wipe you out. That’s why this process is so beautiful to watch. You didn’t flinch…you wouldn’t be “The Donald” if you did. You grabbed their little missile in true Art of the Deal fashion and lobbed it back in their faces only to have them scurry away to safer ground to try again.
They had to treat you this way and it wasn’t for ratings. It was for a much greater cause which is obvious to anyone with half a brain to see. They need you to get out of their way so they can return to the business of government. Right now you present a threat to their livelihood and because of this you must go.
I think the Republican establishment is in for a rude awakening…
The great crash and burn that was supposed to happen when you spoke the truth about the illegal immigration and the criminal element hidden in the numbers and then again when you spoke up about John McCain (the Veteran) and how much more he could have done for Veterans over the years he’s been in Congress…would finally happen in the debate.
Um…well…it didn’t.
Quite frankly…you had a target on your back from the moment you walked onstage. Actually, the target was on your chest as well. To be truthful, it was clear to see from either side.
They don’t like you, Donald…for reasons that go far beyond your billions. The “they” of which I refer are those who would prefer to continue running things the way they’ve been doing it for years…the infamous smoke-filled back room, arm twisting, gut wrenching deal making process those hallowed halls of Congress in Washington is known for.
You’re going to ruin that entire system of theirs which they’ve been building brick by brick, year after year, election after election. You are exactly the type of candidate they should be afraid of for two very good reasons.
You get things done and you can’t be bought. These two attributes give me my greatest confidence in you.
It seems to me that you have accomplished something no other presidential candidate has done since 1980 and for that you should feel so honored. I loved that they are so hard at work attempting to destroy you…that they are hammering away at you the same way they came after Sarah Palin and Ronald Reagan before her. You’re in good company there.
That’s why it was important to see you handle them like you did. Last night they dealt you the death blow and mistakenly they think they’ve taken you out. They’re wrong of course. Now at least you know who your friends are. Rather than trying to understand your popularity, they’ll be sharpening their knives from here on out looking to take you down.
Truth is if you can’t handle the crap coming your way…you don’t deserve my vote anyway. It’s that plain and simple. But you already know that.
Watching from the sidelines,
Roger J Conway
