Dear Mr. Trump,
Poor, Steve Harvey...he just showed all of us that he’s not really that good of an actor.
Well, maybe he is, but I think he was in way over his head with this one. The theory about the apparent deliberate “blundering” as the host of this year’s Miss Universe contest has been bantered about and I personally think its dead on.
I watched as they sent the affable Mr. Harvey back out (not even to center stage) to undo his “historic” mistake. His feigned attempt at awkwardness wasn’t believable to any adult with a child over the age of three.
Selling an idea isn’t easy. That’s why it’s so much more important to hire a seasoned professional when forced to sell a bad one. The ability to deliver a believable character is the sole role of every seasoned actor everywhere. Timing…it’s always all about timing.
As the music played in the back ground and the camera’s zoomed in for the close-up Miss Colombia was permitted to stroll across the stage, her crown in place, cradling her bouquet of flowers, waving to the throngs of fans with genuine tears of happiness streaming down her face. We’re not talking seconds here…we’re talking minutes.
Then poor Steve is sent out, his body struggling to walk in agreement with the expression on his face. His eyes were the only thing out of sync with the rest of his performance. They screamed CONTRIVED! (With the same level of boyhood guilt mine did years earlier when I looked at my mother after she caught me doing something wrong).
Sadly, he looked completely unnatural and his eyes just couldn’t cooperate with the rest of the charade.
I’ve got to hand it to NBC; they sure know how to create a media buzz. I believe they decided to cheapen the prestigious reputation of the Miss Universe contest for the immediate need to present relevancy to a franchise lost in a time warp. You sold out at the right time. Of course, you would have never green-lighted this little gem.
Unfortunately, they really messed this one up. This isn’t 2005 and we’re not buying into the Hollywood bullsh*t anymore either. The American public isn’t interested in fake story lines and we’re tired of being lied to. We desire an unscripted truth which is why you’re leading in the polls the way you are.
The rest of the presidential contenders on the Republican side look to suffer a similar fate as the good Mr. Harvey did. I think I’m going to call it the “Harvey Syndrome” or “HS” for short. Jeb Bush suffers with a classic case of “HS”. He’s so absolutely disengaged from his own words no one, including him, believes a word he’s saying.
(Kinda like Natalie Wood in the original Miracle on 34th Street when she’s sitting on the stairs saying halfheartedly, “I believe I believe…it’s silly, but I believe.”)
He can’t even bring himself to pretend to care.
Rather than believe from a core of living a principled life his campaign relies on data to tell him how to act, what to say and what to do. They still think that the way to run a campaign is thru the filter of polling data. One quick glance over his individual standings reveals the ugly truth of that antiquated strategy.
One by one, the American people will winnow through the shrinking field of Republican presidential dreamers and we will finally choose our contender for the first time since 1981. And the establishment couldn’t be more upset about it.
Your candidacy presents a real problem for them. They never saw you coming. But we did. They’re so removed from us they don’t even know they helped to create you.
They have no idea how angry we’ve become. We’ve been taken for granted for far too long. We are the law abiders who actually care about the way our country is being run. We are not afraid and worse yet…this time around we’ve got nothing to lose.
You can pick a fight any time you want…but if you want to make absolutely sure that you’re not gonna win…pick a fight with the man who has got nothing to lose and doesn’t respect you. It’s in the blood that ran thru every American who fought against the British in the cause of the birth of our nation.
It’s the same blood still coursing thru the veins of every voter over the age of forty who remembers what American greatness actually felt like on a daily basis. We remember what it felt like to stand along the parade routes with our families proudly celebrating that American greatness. Many of us long for those days.
It is only by the will of the people that any of those in politics have their jobs. If there’s a lesson to be learned from this election cycle it’s this…Washington is going to experience how the will of the people can ruin their little Washingtonian utopia.
Recently, the newly anointed Speaker of the House just handed you one of the nicest Christmas present of the season. His cooperation in the latest trillion dollar government heist simply underscores the timing of your run to the White House. Hopefully you can dispense with the rest of the losers currently boring the heck out of politics and get into the real fight with the one person who’s itching to get back into power.
One can’t repeatedly vote into law legislation that goes so blatantly against the will of the people and expect us to sit idly by. The words “Elections have consequences” were once uttered by our current president. For once…we couldn’t agree with him more.
