Dear Mr. Trump,
So this has been an interesting couple of weeks. While I was out in Idaho for my eldest nephews wedding, you busied yourself with the volatile process of continuing to seek the Republican nomination. The powers in charge are eager to have you stumble…they can’t wait to trounce on your ‘inevitable’ grave. But strangely enough…your message is still resounding strongly in flyover country while getting a lot of traction in the hallowed ground of the major metropolitan Democrat districts. Still they wait. Something’s terribly wrong with this system of power and you know it.
Ben Carson revealed that his constitutional barometer would never allow him to accept a Muslim as president. Then the press went ape sh*t over your seemingly disinterest to wrestle with a supposed constituent who was obviously not convinced that our dear president is even remotely interested in our viability on the world stage. Funny, isn’t it? How no one seems to know who this “supporter” is or where he’s from? I’m sure he’ll be chased out into the open soon enough. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Your answer (or lack thereof) only frustrated those who seek your demise. You’ve been busy verbally assaulting the political pundits on a daily basis which truly serves to amplify the love fest of your admirers. All of this, on the heels of playing to the largest stages of America’s left leaning entertainment Mecca.
Your presence on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon gave the American Left an opportunity to like you on a level they've resisted since you announced your desire to “Make America Great Again!” Unfortunately, they’re still licking their wounds between laughs. You were not supposed to be that likable and you certainly shouldn’t be able to laugh at yourself. Damn you ruined everything…how ever are they supposed to hate on you now?
Even Steven Colbert had to spank his audience into submission by stoutly reminding them that you were, in fact, his guest. You can count on one hand the number of times he’s done that for anyone in his career. He proved his trustworthiness in those two seconds for those of us who were paying attention. He’s not an idiot…he knows that your ability to take the White House isn’t worth hanging up his career on for a cheap laugh at an after hour cocktail party…the way it did for the demoted Katie Cuoric who decidedly mugged an exhausted Sarah Palin. Katie had her once celebrated career as a major media News Anchor for CBS tailspin into the great unknown as a Yahoo Global News Anchor a title (not surprisingly) invented just for her.
And now there’s Fox News. You know, they just can’t help themselves. They really do need you…but there’s this little thing called ratings and…well…you bring them every time you show up everywhere you go. (CNN’s ratings department continues to graciously thank you for keeping them relevant) There’s nothing in this world like a little contrived drama. They hate on you…you punch back. You come back together later for a little old fashioned Kumbaya revelry and voila! Mission accomplished…the ratings bonanza is on! Wash, Rinse, Repeat.
But there is some thing to this Fox News tidbit which I’ve been watching for since Old Man Murdoch declared on 7/11/15 his intent to pass the baton of leadership of Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. to his sons James and Lachlan. This innocuous announcement didn’t rest well with me on several levels…the least of which has now become glaringly apparent. I was looking for the shift…the marker which occurs in any organization who experiences a change in the upper echelons of its leadership. I think I’ve found it.
People in power often like to put what I call their “Legacy Fingerprints” on whatever power (great or small) that they’ve been given. It’s done in Institutions of Higher Learning, Pro-Sports, Presidencies and Businesses alike. Just about everywhere you look the person in power is attempting to create their legacy. It seems the Murdoch Boys are no different. Except they don’t lean right in their ideology…so I don’t expect them to keep Fox News right leaning much longer either.
The sudden disrespectful attacks by Meagan Kelly, the amateurish heckling of anything Trump by the Bully of Fox News, Bill O’Reilly and now the decision to cancel on you with Bully Bill. Truthfully…I could be persuaded that this is yet again another ratings game, but not with the Murdoch Boys in charge. I believe that you present them with another quandary…they have their assignment from the RNC. You must be destroyed but it must be done without getting any of your blood on them…and certainly without losing their precious ratings. It’s nothing personal…it’s only business. But, I don’t think they’re going to come out the winner here.
For the low information voter, it’s all news! (Water cooler confab, “Why…did you hear the latest?”) See, the sad part is the low information voter doesn’t even know they have parts, much less how to play them. Yet they’re somehow committed to play them as dutifully as those duped by the “clock boy” and his Islamophobic inspiring, bomb looking, non-inventive time piece. They don’t even know the name of the play they’re in. They just need to have enough information to sound good at the water cooler and isn’t that really where all the policy makers get their awesome sound bites anyway?
I can hardly bring myself to watch Fox News anymore because I am no longer swayed by those in the control room. Their desire to feed me their carefully filtered morsel of news no longer works for me. The good news here is this…I’m not alone. There are millions of us everyday choosing to cut the cable/satellite and turn to the new media…the online options for truth which can’t be washed over with a slick looking anchor, optic pleasing graphics and a live crawler.
Based on the latest numbers…the TV industry is getting its ass beat in a market they’ve dominated since the beginning. All because information is now available to the masses and everyone knows how dangerous information is in the hands of the ignorant. :) (Just ask the British circa 1776)
